The horror genre is no stranger to this basic premise, where a vampire moves in next door. The Vampire Next Door deviates quite a bit from Fright Night after the aforementioned set-up.
This film surprised me. I was expecting a very low-budget rip-off as the title gave off straight-to-video vibes, however, this film has beautiful cinematography and is way better than I thought it was going to be. In fact, it's a good movie.
I enjoyed the characters for the most part (some were annoying, but that was on purpose) and I felt like I could watch more of their story and that's what hooked me into the story (which runs for an hour and fifty minutes, which is quite long).
Another thing that hooked me was the story. It was quite unpredictable and had quite a few twists and turns.
A downside to this movie is that it's not scary. I would call it entertaining, but not scary. There's a few scenes with gore, but other than that and the threat of the vampire, there's not a lot of tension.
The acting is good and they do well with a script that can sometimes be clunky (for example, the first few scenes feel a bit unnatural, especially how they are edited).
Overall, a good, solid vampire film.
