The Vatican Tapes is a horror film about an exorcism.
The things I liked about this film were some of the camera
directions. I liked the shots where it became kind of abstract in its look. It
almost felt like a European art house movie. There were also some nice creepy
images in this which I liked and wasn’t prepared for. The acting was ok, it was
competent. It wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t ground-breaking.
The bad things about this movie are that it’s not scary. Ok,
if you haven’t watched this type of horror before, you may find at least some
scenes scary, but for me it wasn’t scary. It was a mild horror film, almost a
thriller. It was also quite boring in parts, especially the scenes in the
meeting room. The film was predictable, I mean, if you’ve seen one of these
types of films, then you’ve nearly seen every one. It has the feeling of a B
movie about it. It practically screams like one of the characters
direct-to-DVD. But that was ok; it was just a small quibble. There were some
dodgy camera shots, where the actors’ hair was distracting because it was in
the way of a good shot. At last, it was quite uneventful. It was slow (not
very, though), but nothing much seemed to happen. It didn’t help that it was so
predictable, as well.
