The Transfiguration

I like vampire films. This isn’t your typical vampire film, but you know that it has studied the genre with references to some well-known vampire films. Also, you realize that the filmmakers have used the template of the twisty vampire film Let the Right One In, even having a bloodthirsty encounter under a bridge. It is basically the same as that film, just not as good in my opinion. Let the Right One In had tons of atmosphere, this one had an urban feel to it which didn’t produce that underlying menace. The Scandinavian film wasn’t great, and in this film I felt more connected to the characters than in that film. It’s a flawed film, but it kept me engaged throughout. However, the twist is VERY predictable, if they wanted there to be a twist. You know straight off the bat who the vampire is. The acting was good and the cinematography was ok. It just tried to imitate Let the Right One In too much. It is a good film, don’t get me wrong, but it’s flawed.
Also, a bit of a spoiler here, so if you don't want to read on the review has ended. Now, I liked the foreshadowing here, and especially in this scene (pictured below) where the main character is seen walking in the same shot as a sign which says 'dead'. The foreshadowing was interesting and creative, and added something to this film, it added intrigue. And I like that. It kept me eagle-eyed to see what else would be included in this film. It is quite sad foreshadowing, as well.

The characters in this film are quite believable, they do things that people would normally do, and that adds a layer of realism to the whole experience.
Thank you to Soda Pictures for giving me a copy of the film to review.

The Transfiguration is out on DVD and Blu-Ray on 14th August 2017.
