Sausage Party

Sausage Party is an animated adult comedy that ends up feeling like an opportunity to be called the first 3D adult animated comedy.

Basically, the story goes that all these foods are alive (which reminds me of Toy Story – similarities to Toy Story pretty much end there, except for a few bits here and there) and they all wait to go to the ‘Great Beyond’. However, the ‘Great Beyond’ isn’t as fun as they think it is.

So, firstly we’ve got a big satire on religion. The movie bashes you over the head with it, and by the end you feel drained. Secondly, the level of swearing feels like they wanted to make an impression and wanted as much cussing as possible to stand out, just to make sure that it got an R rating.

However, the movie isn’t funny. Sure, the animation is sometimes breathtakingly good, but the ‘comedy’ just consists of very bad jokes, jokes which aren’t funny for the most part. I did laugh a few times, but was mostly floored by how much swearing, drug misuse and sex there was in the film. Oh, and a pretty surprising amount of gore, too.

This is a comedy experiment which forgot to be funny.

I did like some parts, but overall, I was disappointed.
